Techniques commonly used in functional rhinoplasty include Septoplasty, Nasal Valve Repair, and Turbinate Reduction, which can be performed alongside rhinoplasty to enhance both the form and function of the nose. The primary focus is on restoring or improving nasal function, with any aesthetic enhancements being a secondary benefit.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty, on the other hand, focuses on enhancing the appearance of the nose to better align with a patient's aesthetic goals. This might involve reshaping the nose’s size, contour, or symmetry to achieve a more balanced and pleasing look. Depending on the desired changes, either open or closed rhinoplasty techniques can be employed, with the procedure potentially altering the nasal bridge, tip, or overall shape. The primary aim of cosmetic rhinoplasty is to improve the visual appearance of the nose, with any functional improvements being incidental or secondary.
Types of Rhinoplasty: Open vs. Closed
Open vs closed rhinoplasty simply refers to how your nose is accessed during surgery.
Open Rhinoplasty
Involves an incision at the base of the nose, providing greater access to the nasal structures. This method is ideal for more complex cases, such as revision surgeries or detailed work on the nasal tip and mid-vault.
Closed Rhinoplasty
Performed with incisions hidden inside the nostrils, making it a more discreet option. This technique is best suited for less complex adjustments, primarily focusing on the dorsum or bridge of the nose.
